Bill sat silently in the small confines of his hotel room’s closet. The events of the last night were running like a nickelodeon through his brain. The memories sped past his eyes under his closed lids so fact that they only served to created a blurry mess like a film projector within his mind that refused to focus. Darkness incased him within the closet and it was strangely comforting as if he were tucked into a warm bed on a frost night. Mo matter how comforting his hiding place seemed it did nothing to slow the rampage of imagery within his mind.

The only clear memory his was able to pluck from the fuzzy sea was that of a necklace. Bill found it odd that and insignificant piece of jewelry was the only thing his brain was able to fish out. He could remember a long silver chain that played host to a very hefty charm. The charm was made up of intricate silver stands that wove together to form a type of webbing. In the center of the silver webbing was a large blood red ruby. Though he could clearly remember the necklace, he could remember nothing about the neck on which it had hung.

Bright rays of morning sunlight were beginning to seep under the closet doors. For some reason Bill feared them. He feared what would happen if that sunlight managed to reach his skin.  It was a ridicules fear to have, seeing as he had lived his entire life up until this point in the sun. Managing to wedge himself farther into the empty closet, Bill fruitlessly tried to avoid the intruding light.

“Bill?” Tom’s voice called from eh other side of the door that adjoined their rooms, followed by a stern knocking. “Bill, are you awake yet? The bus leaves in an hour.”

Bill dared not answer his twin for it meant leaving the relative safety of the closet. “Please Tom, go away.” He pleaded silently.

“Bill?” Tom called again, before rattling the door knob.

“Please be locked,” Bill whispered burying his head in his hands.”Please let it be locked.” Much top Bill’s dismay it was not.

“Wake-up sleepy it’s time to get packing.” Tom called barging into the room. “Bill?”

Bill tried his best to stay still as he listened to Tom move about the empty hotel room. Even as he tried to silence his panicked breathing he knew it was no use. Tom would find him. Part of being identical twins was their ability to track one another down. There was just some kind of built in sense that worked as a personal GPS device. It made childhood games of hide n’ seek very short to say the least.

“Bill?” Tom Whispered stopping directly in front of the closet doors. “Are you in there?”

    “No,” Bill answered. “Go away.”

“Oh, I’m sorry Mr. Closet fairy. I was looking for Bill.” Tom laughed yanking open the closet’s sliding glass door.

Bill immediately threw his arms up in front of his face shielding it form the bright sunlight. The light was blinding to his eyes, but other than that it did no real damage. Blinking franticly, Bill focused his gaze on his bare feet.

“Find your shoes it’s time to go.” Tom ordered kneeling down next to him. “Weren’t you wearing that outfit yesterday?”

Bill’s gaze lifted momentarily from his back toenail polish to his clothing. Indeed he was wearing the same outfit he had worn at last night’s concert. He distinctly remembered stepping out on the stage of the Tavastia club wearing his black pants with all the zippers, red leather jacket, studded dog collar and silver snake skin boots. It was what happened after the concert that he was fuzzy on.

“Yeah,” Bill sighed, his eyes darting around for his missing shoes.

“Are you ok?” Tom questioned, worry hanging in his voice. “You do some strange things sometimes, but last time I checked hanging out in hotel closets wasn’t one of them.”

“I’m fine,” Bill answered trying to sound as normal as possible. He didn’t want to worry Tom too much until he himself knew what was going on. Tom would worry anyway. It was just the nature of being twins.

  Chapter 2

********************************************************************

Bill stepped out of the hotel’s back doors practically rapped up like a mummy. The sun was still plaguing him with a sense of dread. The indirect exposure to it through a window early had been enough to temporarily blind him. He wasn’t taking any chances this time. Bill had systematically rapped himself in layers of clothing that not only protected him from the sun, but also from the harsh December Finnish weather. He wore a large white puffy coat that resembled a tiny Michelin man, black mittens, a black toboggan, sunglasses and a white scarf that covered half his face.

‘Who are you supposed to be, the Stay Puff marshmallow man?” Georg chuckled pushing past him dragging a suitcase towards the tour bus.

“I’m cold ok!” Bill answered stuffing his mittened hands into his pocket.

Even when they were all loaded onto the bus and rolling, Bill didn’t take off his mummy layers. He sat scrunched up under the table faking like he was asleep, while the band starred at him.
“I think he’s finally lost it.” Georg commented, taking a seat next to Tom.
“I did find him hiding in a closet this morning.”
“Ok, that’s strange even for Bill.”
“He was fine yesterday.” Tom sighed “I don’t understand why he’s acting like this.”
“Maybe he’s sick. He does look a little paler than usual.”
Bill, who was not truly asleep, listened to his band mates theories carefully. Maybe he was going crazy. He had been touring for over a year now. This could be something to do with missing home, but that didn’t explain the weird necklace memory. At the thought of the phantom necklace something in his pocket began to vibrate. Alarmed, Bill sprang from underneath the table, nearly smacking his head in the process, and fumbled to pull his cell phone from his pocket. But, it was not a phone he discovered. It was a necklace.
“Hey, when’d you buy that?” Tom questioned looking puzzled at his brother’s sudden movement. To his eyes it had looked like Bill just appeared in the middle of the bus. Maybe he was the one losing it?
“I honestly can’t remember.” Bill whispered starring at the large ruby encased in silver webbing.
“It looks expensive and a bit girly. Do you have a girlfriend I’m not aware of?” Tom laughed trying to shake the bewildered feeling this whole situation was giving him. Bill didn’t answer; he just kept starring at the trinket in his hand. Tom decided not to press the issue. His brother would talk to him when he was ready. He always did.

Chapter 3

The band's next show was to be in Oslo. The Scandinavian leg of their tour was in full swing and the cold dark weather was already becoming depressing to everyone. Well, everyone except Bill. The growing lack of sunlight was a good thing in his mind. By the time they arrived in Norway Bill had ditched his marshmallow coat and scarf for a short sleeved t-shirt and suspenders. In 20 degrees weather that was still quit odd.

"I honestly am not cold!" Bill insisted stepping off the bus into the wintry night air.

"Come on?" Gustav exclaimed. "It's like 11 degrees outside and you're wearing short sleeves!"

      "I'm Fine."

"You don't look fine. You're really pale and have dark circles under you eyes." Georg began.

"Also, why do you keep wearing that girly necklace you don't even remember buying?" Tom continued.

"Guys I’m fine. Maybe touring got me a bit strung out, but there's no reason to worry." Bill's words tasted a lie and judging by Tom's face he knew it. He decided to say nothing. Bill would talk to him eventually, wouldn't he?

Even though his sun fear was taking care of itself, Bill was beginning to have a whole new batch of problems. As George pointed out his skin had turned noticeably paler so that he had a chalky appearance. He was also developing bruise like circles under his eyes. Most disturbingly of all was his strange attachment to the phantom dream necklace. No matter where he went he felt compelled to wear it. The origins of the necklace were still a mystery to him.

They had arrived at the venue early in order to go through the basic mechanics of the stage set-up. Each venue is completely different and if you were aware of where things were it was easy to trip and fall into a crowd of rapid fans. Lord only knows how many times bill had fallen on stage.

"Ok, we've installed the lift mechanism for Bill's entrance." The crew manager explained as they toured the underside of the stage. "We still need to put together the ramps on the top so he can get down."

"Now, you have to be kind of careful," The manager continued as they neared the very back of the stage. "There’s an extreme drop-off back here. We should have the railings up before show time, but you'll need to be careful during sound-check." The tour continued on top of the stage where the manager pointed out the stairwells and electrical chords to watch out for. Arenas were always the most complicated and fun venues to play. The stage was bigger, had more special effects and often times it moved. Every time you added another element to the stage the chance of an accident increased.

As if on cue a shrill scream echoed from the rear of the stage followed by a sickening thud. Immediately everyone's attention shifted in the direction of the ominous sound.

Chapter 4

Peering over the 30 foot drop-off at the rear of the stage the band was faced with a gruesome sight.

“Call an ambulance!” the stage manager cried rushing towards the nearest stairwell.

As the source of the chaos came into view Bill’s naturally dark eyes were immediately cast in a blackish film. Apparently one of the stage crewmembers had slipped and fell while installing the stage railing. He now lay unconscious and bleeding on the concrete below.   The distinct metallic smell of fresh blood filled Bill’s nostrils and he had to squelch the immediate instinct to leap towards it. Bill’s breathing became frantic as he tried desperately to grasp his bizarre reaction to the situation. He had to get away from here!

“Where are you going?” Tom shouted after Bill who was now bolting towards the stairs.

“Restroom!” Bill yelled in reply never wavering in his retreat.

“Maybe all the blood made him sick.” Gustav concluded.

“Maybe,” tom sighed. “I hope he’s ok.”

“Who, Bill?” Georg stated. “He’ll be fine. I’m worried more about the crewmember.”

Bill hit the door of the men’s room with a fevered panic. He had to get away from the smell of blood. Normally he wouldn’t have smelled it at all, but something was different. Bill frantically dipped his hands under the running sink, splashing cold water on his face. The person starring back at him in the mirror was a stranger. His eyes were covered in a tick black film that made look like an alien or possessed. Maybe that was it? He was possessed by an alien. That didn’t explain the elongated incisors that were now protruding from his mouth.

Bill took a deep breath and gripped the phantom necklace tightly closing his eyes. Just holding the charm made him feel safer and clam. When he reopened his eyes his reflection was more familiar. His face still held a pale look and his mascara was everywhere, but essentially it was Bill.

Vampire Bill

♪ Dont you turn around! ♪ I sang to the audience, finishing Ready Set Go, the rest of the band played the ending, and I shouted, Thank you Los Angeles! then the concert was over. Once the audience started to leave, we walked off stage.
Man, that was one of the best concerts ever! Tom said.
I agree, and that was an awesome stage dive during Scream, Bill! Georg told me.
Thanks... I said with a slight smile on my face, and Gustav, didnt you throw your drumsticks like 10 feet in the air?
Yeah I did, Gustav said, also with a smile on his face.
Yeah, it was an awesome concert altogether! I said.
Well I cant wait, because now we can just relax! We can go anywhere, and we get all month! Tom reminded us.
Oh yeah, we have a whole vacation month! I said, walking to the door, Where do you guys wanna go?
I was thinking the Caribbeans, or maybe Hawaii... Georg suggested.
That would be a nice getaway, Gustav agreed.
Sure, or maybe... I started, I remember once seeing an island somewhere on the coast -- I think its called Catalina Island -- and I wanted to go there. It seemed like a nice place.
Oh yeah, that place. It seems pretty cool, Tom said.
Ok, I guess were going to Catalina Island! Gustav said.
Ok, when should we leave? I asked.
Well we can try to get tickets for a ferry when we get back to the hotel, and we can leave possibly tomorrow, Georg told me.
That sounds good. Ill get them then.
But first, we have to get through the fans, Tom said with a smile growing on his face.
Yeah. Fans first, then vacation, I joked.
We opened the doors, then we went past the fans, saying hi, and got to the limo. We went straight to the hotel and I got tickets, which were for tomorrow, so we packed up and went to bed. The next morning, Tom was waking me up because I was sleeping in too late.
Bill, wake up!
Huh... What? I drowsily asked Tom.
We need to leave for the trip Bill!
Oh shoot... I jumped from the bed, got ready, ate some breakfast, and got my stuff as quickly as I could. We checked out of the hotel, got a cab, went to the Long Beach harbor, and took a ferry to Catalina, where we were going to stay for two weeks. We saw the water, which we thought was beautiful, and we saw a few dolphins on the way. Once we got there, we got our luggage, checked into the hotel, and started to walk around the village. No one seemed to notice us, so we had an awesome time relaxing and just hanging out.
Man, look at all the cool things there are to do! Georg said, showing us a list of different island activities.
Theres so many things we should do! What do you guys wanna do first? Gustav asked.
Well, we could go golf carting, parasailing, and biking today, Tom suggested.
Yeah that seems like a good plan, I agreed, Lets go golf carting first.
Sure, Georg and Gustav said.
We left to go golf carting, got a golf cart, and we went off. While we were going up one trail, we saw a bike trail going to a cool beach. It seemed a bit like there was something there, not just a beach.
Guys, do you see that? I stopped the cart to show them.
Whoa what is that? Tom asked.
It looks like... a cave?
Yeah it does... Georg said.
Maybe we should go see it when we go biking, Gustav said.
Ok. Lets get back, go parasailing, then come here, I said.
Ok, the rest of them agreed.
We turned back, returned the golf carts, went parasailing for a few hours, went back to the hotel to change, then went to get bikes. We went around Avalon for a bit, then we headed to the cave. We parked our bikes and walked in.
Wow... its really big... Gustav said.
I think its really cool! I wanna go in and see whats here! I told them, walking in the cave.
I dont think its such a good idea, Bill, Georg said.
Ill go to, Tom said, following me.
Georg and Gustav had worried faces, but left the cave while Tom and I went in. We walked for a bit, then we saw a light ahead, which surprised us.
Bill, theres a fire down there, isnt there? Tom asked.
Yeah, I think there is. Thats kind of creepy... I said.
Do you wanna see whats there?
Sure. I feel, I dont know, daring. I smiled.
Ok...
We went farther in, and just before the light from outside was gone, we came to some embers, and at the back of the cave, there was a man. He didnt seem scared from us coming, but, more happy.
Hello? Whos there? I asked the man.
Are you human? He asked.
Yes, of course! Tom said.
The man got up, sniffed the air, and a big smile came on his face.
Perfect... He said to us.
I dont think this is good... We should go... Tom said to me.
Im not afraid. Im gonna find out why hes here. You go on, I told him.
No. Were twins, we stick together.
Well Im gonna stay here.
Fine, Ill stay.
I walked up to the man, but then I saw him walking to me like if he was hungry.
What do you want? I asked him.
Your blood, He said with a big smile on his face, coming towards me and Tom.
Tom, run! I yelled to him, running out of the cave.
Oh shit! He came after me, and ran ahead of me, scared.
I started to run to the entrance, but the man came behind me and threw me to the ground. I landed on some stones, and it sliced my arm a bit, but I was fine. I tried to get up, but he picked me up, threw me against the wall, and bit my neck all in one moment. It hurt so much, and I let out a huge scream, so loud that Tom heard me.
Bill, are you alright?! he called.
...Tom... I said, my voice weak. I was in too much pain, and I fell to the ground.
